ive been in treatment for opiate addiction for 4 years, ive been taking methadone at a clinic. at first this was an improvement and i felt good, not high, just normal. and yes i know all about methadone and how addictive it is, and it probably was a major mistake to start the program, but ive tried detoxing for the last 2 years and every time i start down, i have extreme anxiety and depression along with nausea and stomach pain. i suffer from anxiety already and i think that it is making this so much more difficult for me. but, no dr. wants to treat methadone patients especially here in southern wv. i would like to find a dr. who treats methadone patients without discrimination and arent afraid to prescribe the right meds.

My question is can I just go to any of the doctors that gave me pain meds and ask for methadone so I can get off the opiates and not have to deal with the withdrawl. How should I go about dealing wtih my addiction. I dont have the money for detox or a treatment place plus it isnt that bad of an addiction but I do know if i quit taking the pain meds I will go through withdrawls for a couple weeks. So how do I get methadone to get over this addiction. Do I need to go to a methadone clinic or can I just go to any random doctor and explain and are the odds good that I will get the methadone so I slowly get off the opiate addiction.
I am not a junkie so dont even insult me with responses relating or even implying this. I had a back disease for the past 6 years but is slowly getting better through treatment. My doctor that diagnosed me suffered a major heart attack and is unable to work anymore so I was forced to see random doctors to get my pain meds. Not a junkie, just was in pain

I’ve been on Methadone for a month now and I went on it for Heroin addiction. It is working well as far as I’m not sick or craving. It is hard on my body though. I’ve had 3 periods since I’ve been on it in one month and I’m always very regular. I would like to go on suboxone but I heard you have to be going through withdrawl before going on it. I hear Suboxone isn’t quite as harsh as Methadone and not so bad detoxing off of when you are ready. How many days would I have to go without taking my Methadone to try it? Are there meds. that would help the withdrawl in the meantime? Has suboxone worked for you or the person you know that’s tried it? I also take Xanax which is prescribed and I heard that it is dangerous to take withi Suboxone but I heard the same thing about Methadone and so far, I’ve been okay except for ‘nodding off’ a bit especially around bedtime. Any info. appreciaited.

I’m doing research because I’m responding to an editorial about local methadone clinics. I’m pretty sure it’s not as easy as “just walking in to your doctors office and getting a script for suboxone and moving on with your day”. I think you have to be below 100mg of methadone to get on Suboxone. Anyone have experience that would be willing to share with me? Also, what are for-profit methadone clinics?
