i have been with my boyfriend for about 6 months. when we first met he was going to the methadone clinic (after being ‘clean’ from herion) and taking about 110 mg a day. he was also taking pain pills to enhance the high of the opiates (sp?) or something like that. i am not positive if he was even clean from herion, because he best friend was doing it everyday in his room, and i dont understand why he would still want to be around it..? anyways, we moved away from his clinic and he started disappearing for hours while going to dose. after a big fight, he decided to stop doing cold turkey. this was in january. i recently moved out to save money and since then he has been acting funny. secretly talking to his friend who now lived with 3 miles who he always did drugs with. bedroom activity is off & on, which is unusual. i noticed him nodding off last week. i got an at home drug test and asked him to take it. he flat out REFUSED!! 4 days later, he wants to take it. i told him its to late, im not stupid drugs leave your system blah blah blah.

i know he was really really proud of himself after he went through withdrawals in the beginning, so i figure he would be proud to test clean!! i told him no matter what the outcome, i would still be there. and i will be!!! so, why refuse..??
here’s an example of when we talk about him doing drugs…

me: i should have known when i met you that when i came down to it, drugs would be chosen over me. even though i know you love me, im pretty sure losing me is easier then stopping drugs.

I’m worried the suboxone doctor won’t take me in because of the xanax I’m prescribed. I’m on 30mg of methadone, down from 60, and not feeling well. 50-60 was a perfect dose for me. 1.) Will the doctor even see me since i’m on xanax, 2.) what do you think he will start me out on. been on Lortab 10’s for the duration..it started with taking 2 a day and has gradually built up to 5-6 a day…I still have pain and I feel like lortab has taken over my life even though I know my pain is real..I went to a pain mngmt clinic and he suggested that I take 10 mg methadone..he said I will feel like a normal person again and not have withdrawls from the lortab but the methadone will relieve the pain as well. He said methadone when taken correctly is VERY effective and is a VERY misunderstood drug. I am also having injections to see if they will help. I am already on antidepressants and high blood pressure meds but he said that is ok..Frankly just the name SCARES the hell out of me and I was wondering if anyone has had success with methadone treatment????

I have tried the methadones and now that’s one of the things I have been doing on a daily basis! The methadone clinics don’t want to help .. They start you off with a small amount and give you more and more and more! I am going to try Suboxen, but I have to make it through for a couple days until I can get to the doctor. I don’t know if I can do this! I want to be done so bad, but I have never had a detox like this! I’m beyond miserable! : (
Update.. I have my doctors appointment tomorrow to get the suboxens, but like I said, I have been beyond miserable! I really, really, really just want to be done with this crap, so I didn’t want to buy anything off of the streets, but then a friend of mine told me that he had a few Suboxens left from the last time he went to the doctor and he gave me those! : ) So, I feel a million times better and I’m on the right path! I’m so excited, kind of nervous, but just really happy that I’m getting off of this crap! Thanks so much for the help and the nice posts!! : )

Earlier this past week, he called me to inform me that he admitted what was going on to his mother when she asked him about it. That morning, the three of us went to a substance abuse/mental health center. After talking with the staff, he and his mom decided not to use their facilities for detox due to its high price. So, he and I detoxed ourselves and neither of us has relapsed. It hasn’t been a full week yet, but that is a big step because it happened when we attempted to quit previously.
Now, on the morning of the day we went to the clinic, I decided to “finish” the rest of my dope. I remember saying to them, “I don’t have a problem” at the clinic. However, I later realized that I obviously had a problem if I was using just before going there. Later that day, I went to my boyfriend’s house and he started to tell me that he didn’t want to be with me because he didn’t think that I was serious about getting clean. I understand where he was coming from. He also mentioned moving for a semester to another part of the country. Later that day (or maybe the next day), we reconciled and decided to stay together. I was happy because I figured that one of the good things to come out of our sobriety was the fact that we could actually be a real couple again, without a preoccupation with drugs. I was truly happy about it.
On Friday (today is Sunday), we were talking on the phone, for his parents aren’t allowing anyone to come over or him to go anywhere, at least for a while. (His mom said that after the weekend, things may loosen up a little bit.) Anyway, I became emotionally upset due to the fact that I missed him so much, in combination with my withdrawal symptoms. We started to argue and he told me that it was much harder on him, etc. He said that he didn’t want to be with me again. He said that he felt it was too much about drugs. I feel differently. Yes, they were part of our lives, but I know there ws MUCH more to our relationship than drugs. He also said something about moving again. I didn’t talk to him too much on Friday or Saturday. When I did, I reiterated my feelings.
I personally feel that much of this is due to being overwhelmed. He has said things in the past that he didn’t want to be with me, when he was stressed and over whelmed (after a fight sometimes), only to have us getting back together. Anyway, moving and cutting out the “enablers” seems like the ideal thing to do. But, his problems will still be here when gets back. I can understand taking a vacation, but not just leaving everything behind. Also, he is still remaining friends with other users. I do understand that right now, we both need to get better on work on our own personal recovery, but I don’t think it has to involve end our relationship for good. Just knowing that we were still something gave me so much strength. Perhaps we can spend time apart, but I know that I want to still be with him. I do want to respect his wishes, but it’s hard when you love someone like I love him. I just hope that he will start to realize that we were more than drugs.
How can I help him? Is it possible for us to stay/be together after this? Does it seem like he could be just saying this due to his initial resonse to “cut and run”?
I talked to him and we decided that we both need to work ourselves out first. He said we would still be friends and maybe see each other (he’s “grounded” until idk when). We did talk about starting something in time. However, he said he didn’t want to say one way or the other if we would, for you never know what may happen. We did say that really any and all relationships should be out of the question through this process. I think this is for the best for now. He also told a mutual friend that he still cares about me a lot, but it’s just hard to be in a relationship when you have to worry about yourself. He told me that it wouldn’t be fair to me, and he’s right. It wouldn’t be fair to either of us. He also attributed it to bad timing. However, I have a feeling that once he and I recover and stay clean, the rest will follow and things will fall back into place. Do you think they will?

Hello everyone. My roommate/friend that confessed to me about she was a heroin addict. She was using methadone for a while but decided it was harder to get off of that stuff than the heroin. She started using the heroin again. She just recently was admitted into a 10 day clinic for substance abuse to go through withdrawl. She came back and he was looking better than ever. She was alive and talkative. The most noticable thing was that her eyes seemed normal not tiny and unchanging. Lately she has been withdrawing into another room, spends at least an hour in the bathroom when she says she has to go, or staying outside for half an hour to smoke, she has some trouble falling asleep but when she does it is almost impossible to get her to wake up, sometimes she falls asleep on the couch and I can see her twitching,sometimes she goes out to her buddies (who either are users or have used before) place and gets home at strange hours. I am worried because she has a great job and I think that she may be risking her job if she is still using. I confronted her about it but she just gets mad and says that she isn’t using. Can I believe her? I just don’t know anymore. I feel that she is never going to get better and that I should just give up on this friendship.
