My brother was recently hospitalized,not for detox ,he has been a user/abuser of heroin for at least 7 years. well he has been “clean” now for 10 days I was wondering if this has been enough time to get it out of his system so he can start sober living or what he has to do any suggestions would be great as long as they are respectful. so my questios are, how long do drugs stay in your system? how hard is it to “get off” of heroin? and is it possible to detox without methadone? or does he need to be on methadone to really be free of this stuff?
I understand that he has to want it (being drug free) first before he can continue on the road to sober living. I am just wondering if it is possible to achieve this on the first go round? or does he have to re-lapse several times before this will work. and because this hospitalization kind opened his eyes so he could sober up is it possible that he stays sober?

alcohol addiction treatment

I have been on Methadone on and off for years now and have always taken it with Xanax which has been prescribed for years for my severe anxiety. My Medicad representative is trying to tell me I have to get off Xanax to continue getting funding which I find ridiculous! I realize that there is a risk of taking the two together but it is even more dangerous to drink and they can’t test people for alcohol all the time! I know there are MANY people on Methadone who still drink, some even heavily. I take 1 or 2- 1 mgs. of Xanax a day and sometimes even just take a half or none depending on how bad my anxiety is. Have you ever heard of anyoned dying from the combo. and don’t say Anna Nicole because she was abusing massive amounts. I do not have slurred speech or show any warning signs of an overdose if Xanax increases Methadone levels. My clinic also “blind doses” which I hate, I really would like to know my dose.

i am currently detoxing from methadone through a clinic i was 80mgs went to 40,30,25,20,and now 15 i thought i would be able to stop at this point but to just go through one day is hard.i’m trying to do it the right way and my counsler warned me that doing it to fast is no good iwent down within a month and a half and although i was ok til i got to 15{no sleep,restless legs and just plain a nasty person to be around} how in the world am i ever gonna do this.i get alot of slack from my partner he is highly against this and i feel it saved my life and made it possible for me to have mt twin girls.now i don;t even no what i’m asking here i guess do you ever feel normal again its been so long to just be on nothing i forgot what that feels like.i would like to have that natural energy again,but on the otherhand i’m afraid to go bck 2 drugs.any positive advice for me?i need help…

opiate addiction

I have relasped and have been using heroin for a few months and hiding it from my family. i am what they call a functional addict.(not 4 long)i am a house wife who takes care of two boys.i was in a methadone treatment for two years and dont wish to go that route again cant go to rehab or go cold turkey must take care of my children and have no help i know it will not be easy but i would like to overcome my addiction. For the sake of myself and my two children before i fall any further down the dark hole. I know i should have thought about this before i started but we are way past the shoulda woulda couldas. My life my marriage, and my boys are at stake and i’m fully commited to sobrety. I just dont no were to begin.
