Methadone & Xanax, asked b4, but no real response, PLS HELP?

Mystical asked:

I am currently taking 2-3mg of Xanax a day (percribed). I am also addicted to Oxycontin. I have been taking 80-160mg whenever I can get it. Usually every other day for 2 years. I am going to a Methadone Clinic Tuesday. And I am wondering if they will perscribe me the Methadone scince I am taking Xanax. I am going through withdrawls this weekend. I need help getting off the Oxys, and am very serious about quiting, but don’t have insurance to go to doctor, or espically rehab. Can the methadone really help if i’m very serious about quitting. I’ve heard alot of mixed thing on methadone, i’m just scared cause i really need my xanax on somedays. Thank You

These two drugs are very different. Xanax is a drug that is prescribed for anxiety disorders where as Methadone, in your case, is for detoxification treatment of Oxycontin. I am assuming your Dr. has you on Xanax for a good reason. These drugs do not have a negative interaction but I am sure they will want to question your need for it. If you Dr. has prescribed it and feels it is needed it would probably not be likely that they would take you off of it at a time of anxiety provoking drug withdrawal. Remember to tell them you are on it as they will find out any way from the urine test. I wish you the best and know all things are possible.

You might be better to have antidepressant or beta blockers for your anxiety attacks, at least until this methadone issue has resolved.

But Xanax is a drug of abuse (I’m not judging you) and your medical history suggests therapy and avoidance of abused drugs is best and focus on drugs that are safer.

there trying to get you off the drug your abusing not the one that is being prescribed to you. make sure you let them know you have a valid prescription for the zanny. they know what there doing to get you off the stuff without you going through much pain. its kinda weird they give you one drug to get off another drug huh? take it in steps and remember this is a part of your life that will give you character forever. just make the right choices. your smart.
