First of all do not STOP taking without consulting your doctor. I have a very good friend that has been on Methadone for years due to Severe Pain. At the very beginning he had side effects, Anxiety, Agitation, Constipation and Diarrhea, he said that his problem was due to taking this improperly and it increased his risk of having these side effects. He said that once they were able to regulate him on this he felt like a knew man. Good Luck

Side effects on high doses are being tired a lot, constipation, craving sweet food, dry mouth, flushing of the skin, low sex drive and not wanting to have sex, mild weight gain (mostly from eating normal again), oh and SWEATING this is a big one.

Methadone, if you're going to a clinic is not that bad coming off if they wean you right. Do it on your own though and I understand the above post. But methadone is, I feel, the only way to ensure you'll not go back to using smack and rx's.

DON´T USE METHADONE! i don´t know what drugs you are hooked on but methadone is not the way to ween yourself off of them. if you think that your addiction is bad now, wait until you devolop a dependence on methadone. methadone is the hardest habbit to break. when you first start out on it you are really tired and naseous (most likely because you aren´t feeding your usual drug addiction, in my case oxycotin). after a few days you feel fine but then you start to use it just as you had used drugs in the past. it´s completley legal so the habbit will be even harder to break. i was on it for a month and it wasn´t enough so i had to go back to using oxy in addition to the methadone. my advice is if you have a drug problem to check into rehab and use vitamins and natural herbs as a detox. don´t replace one drug for another it will just screw up your recovery process. and if you don´t have a drug problem then don´t take methadone because you will soon find yourself with a drug problem.
