Does Methadone effect your personality? If you know anything about the stuff please help?

Cristal asked:

My boyfriend started Methadone 4 days ago and since he’s been on it he is not acting like himself. I don’t know how do describe it. He seems upbeat and goofy. What are the side effects of this stuff? Please help. I am going nuts in my own way. I am severely severely depressed, ready to check myself in and he is just getting off of H. Sigh, things are just a big freakin mess right now! Just tell me what you know about Methadone.

Thanks in advance!

Methadone is one of the substitute opioids used to soften the blow of withdrawal from heroin, and gradually ween the person off.

Methadone is the same family as heroin, but it’s a different drug. Most opioids can give you that goofy mood, at least when you start. If he was addicted to heroin, he likely had a high tolerance to it, and didn’t get the same rush he did when he first started. But since methadone is a different type, he may be reacting to it more strongly.
