Why would you have told him you were in the clinic. Why was this information that he needed at all. I'm not sure if you have an legal protections or not, you may. But each state has it's own landlord/tenant laws. You would have to hire a real estate lawyer to no for sure. To be honest it's probably not worth it. If he returned you money and your out nothing go find another apartment. And stop telling potential landlords things that are none of their business.
