Comments on: i need a doctor to prescribe methadone, orange county ,ca?

I have been on Methadone for almost 2 years and I only go to the clinic 2 times a month. I started Methadone because I was abusing RX Opiates, I went from Oxycontin, to fentynal lollipops (Morphine on a stick)for severe pain and then Heroin and Cocaine. Now I take my dose once a day and I am good all day and night. I can go to work take care of my family and save my money rather then worry about chasing that high all day. At one point I was in jail for robbing houses with my husband to pay for the drugs and my husband went to Prison for 5 years. We had never commited a crime before that. So Methadone has saved me. I know I will not be on it forever, I am coming down a little at a time it may take me 2 years to come off, but I will do it at my pace. Some people will have to stay on it if they want to stay clean, some people will not. To each is own

No individual doctors will go through the methadone regimen–it’s just not an area that attracts doctors. You need to continue the clinic, sorry. Have you tried weaning from the methadone, or trying other regimens?

Unfortunately, in the U.S. the only way we can receive addiction treatment with Methadone is via the clinics. However, once you have been there for 3 months with no violations you can begin receiving “take home” doses which increase in time (depending on the state) as long as you follow the program. Some people get confused because they hear about doctors writing prescriptions for it here in the U.S. and assume they can get it that way. However, this is only for those who attend a pain clinic where doctors are certified to treat severe pain with Methadone. Also, as of this year pain management doctors can only prescribe the 5-10mg. tablets and not the 40mg wafers. Only addiction clinics like the one you are attending is certified to carry those which means even if you were able to get into a pain clinic and convince them to treat your pain (if you have any) with Methadone then you would receive a much lower dose than you are getting now.Pain clinics also can’t write for the liquid in case you were wondering. So, my advise would be stick with your program and before long you won’t have to drive very often to pick up your doses. I know its frustrating cause I live in Ky. where they have both state and federal regs and the states are among the toughest in the nation. After one and a half years and no violations I get the max # of T.H.’s which is 4 per week. Federal regs say you can have up to a month after the first year! Plus I drive 2 hours a day and I have liver cancer so if I can do it you can LOL Good Luck!
