withdrawing from heroine can be fatal, while withdrawal from methadone is not. So the heroine addict is gradually changed over to methadone, and then safely weaned off of it.

Because it helps reduce the effects from withdraw from the heroin. Heroin withdraw can be fatal and very dangerous for a person to go through by supplmenting the addiction to that with methadone they can safely help the person withdraw from the herion. Here is some more info on why it was made and the make up of it also what is is used for I hope this helps you. Just as a side note most insurance companies will not cover this type of treatment.
