Don’t Get Caught Up in Methadone Addiction
In some medical situations, a doctor or physician might order Methadone for a patient who is experiencing chronic pain or illness. Normally, Methadone is not generally prescribed for moderate or weak levels of pain because there are other, much safer medications that can be used such as Hydrocodone. But in some rare cases a doctor will prescribe Methadone when the pain is severe and it keeps popping back up, even when the patient is using a painkiller. Methadone lasts a long time in the body and therefore is a good choice when the pain is severe and keeps breaking through other medications that have been tried.
This “sticky factor” is a huge part of what makes Methadone so addictive. It is very, very difficult to stop taking Methadone once you are on it. The problem is that the drug is so sticky that it tends to cling to your opiate receptors in your brain for much longer than other opiate painkillers would. This makes for an agonizing and slow withdrawal process.
Keep in mind that treating chronic pain with an opiate is a bit like trying to use alcohol as an anesthetic for surgery. Consider this analogy for a while and you will start to see how painkillers are working in our brain in order to try and treat physical pain. What is actually occurring is that the actual site of the pain is not being treated at all, but instead the opiate drugs are fogging the physical brain so much that the person simply stops being concerned with any pain that their body might be in at the time. Getting to this point when a person is in intense pain means that you have to seriously medicate them to the point of being practically oblivious. Imagine using enough alcohol with a patient to properly prepare them for surgery and you have an idea of just how “out of it” a person can be on Methadone.
People think that Heroin is the worse opiate drug in the world and they think it is the most addictive. In some ways this might actually be the case. But if you look at the severity of cold turkey withdrawal, Methadone is actually worse than Heroin. When coming off of Heroin, anyone can go to a treatment center or drug rehab, stop using the drug immediately, and have medications administered that can control most of the detox symptoms. With Methadone, if people are taking a high enough amount of the drug, then this is really not even possible. The only way to avoid an intense and miserable withdrawal is to slowly ween the addict down in their dosage over time so that they are only taking a minimal amount of Methadone. This is not easy for some addicts to do in itself, especially if they have chronic pain issues that they are dealing with also. In fact, it can be very difficult to get off Methadone, even with this slow weening down process in a person with no chronic pain.

Goodluck to all with this difficult matter…i like suboxone better…my friend and I detoxed together. I went to a sub dr and was weened off in about 14 days and still had to pay the piper…sober since dec 8 10….my buddy on the otherhand can t wait untill 5 every morning for his fix at the clinic….as of today!
Why exactly would I want to ‘get off’ of methadone again? I admit I didn’t watch this entire video, but find it objectionable that you would tout ‘Methadone Detox for the Masses’ when there is hard science to back up the efficacy and life SAVING qualities of this medication. As an MMT patient myself for over a decade I can state that it is FAR from a ” life controlling drug” as you have called it. It helped me to HELP MYSELF and helps hundreds of thousands daily.
I agree – painless is pushing it a bit… but compared to the alternative (stopping methadone and inducting on suboxone 72 hrs later – which is want most of the South Florida Detox units do) – this is a world better. A liberal amount of a short acting pain med (MSCONTIN) to manage withfdrawal pain makes this procedure quite easy.
im slowly weening myself off methadone and im down to 9 mgs from 70mgs. the only bad thing is lack of sleep. just get off it, its really not that hard if you put your mind to it and exercise and try not to think about it. itll end soon enough but really its just not that bad.
In recent weeks we have helped several MMT and pain methadone patients waly away from the life controlling drug. We are finding the methadone stays in the system longer than any other drug – even longer than fentanyl. So if you are struggling give us a call today and start your life over WITHOUT METHADONE!
This guy definitely is in the know and is on the cutting edge of methadone rehab. What ever his facility is charging is well worth the price. In fact, it is my opinion that his facility needs federal funding. It is a shame that the citizenry who come to be dependent on the offerings of the pharmaceutical industry do not have the same lobbing ability to this country’s government to facility this very needy cause.
It’s absolutely amazing to listen to these Pinheads. I’ve been on Methadone for 10 yrs at 150mg. Kicked it twice Cold Turkey. On average, it took approximately 3 months to get back to smelling, eating, sleeping and overall feeling Normal. Here’s the bottom line Pinhead. There is no easy way. You will feel like you’re gonna Die, But you won’t Die.If you want to get off, just Stop and Deal With It. I’m tired of these Liberal Know-it-All Pinheads thinking they have the answer. YOU DON’T ASSHOLE!
For a ‘painless’ detox, you use the word “withdrawal” a lot! You also leave out the fact the Suboxone is physically addictive to the same extent as methadone. Let me guess, comment pending approval?
@2005rosebud why would he its just more exspensive and not necesarrly gonna work better
You can not go from methadone directly to suboxone!!! Dispensing this type of nonsense can put someone in medical peril. This is shameless self promotion by an individual who has a staff member reading from a script to appear as though he is being interviewed by a reputable journalist. Mr. Hanson is NOT A MEDICAL DOCTOR and should be reported to authorities for dispensing medical advice. He is not a licensed therapist either. This is just a commercial for his detox business.
I came off using this method in the UK after 15yrs addiction. 6 of those on methadone. By far the best way to come off of opiates. ‘Painless’ is pushing it a bit though. Needed rehab afterwards. Clean several years now.
They are the same fuckin thing arnt they??i used to inject hydros all the time the red rockets..30 mg capsules..and sometimes id get purple morphine pills and they arre the same thing which is an opiate and does the same thing..
why don’t you use hydro morphone instead of morphine?
well done! This guy knows what he’s talking about. I wish I could have done this my last time and would encourage others that WANT to get off methadone to check it out.
I came off MMT 25 years ago. I authored this video to demonstrate that there is an easier softer way to exit. MMT. Once and addict, I now dedicate my life to helping people get off MMT. If anyone is willing to fly to West Palm Beach and stay a few days in the hotel next to my clinic, I can get them off any dose just about in comfort. No sales pitch here, I have people fly in here from all over the country. The only time there is any discomfort is the 12 hours before the Sub cutover.
Methadone is the shit!! If you wean off slowly like your supposed too you should be fine. It’s when people jump off at 30 or 40 or even higher is when they get sick, and that is just stupid and not how your supposed to do it. And going to suboxone from methadone is easy if you wean down to 30mg of methadone, then you don’t need to go through withdrawal at all. I swear some doctors don’t know the full deal. They just know what they read and not from experience.
