If he has significant pain, then he needs the medication. No one deserves to live in pain. least of all the elderly. Also, Dilaudid is the strongest of the opiates. The only thing stronger than Dilaudid is Heroin. As long as he has genuine pain, he’s not going to be over-drugged. The doctor will work with him to give him a dosage that allows the most pain relief with the fewest side effects. You can’t just say “Give me more pills” and a doctor will do it, especially narcotics these days, they’re very wary of giving them out, so he wouldn’t be given these pills if he didn’t really need them. Have you tried TALKING with his doctor to find out what’s going on, instead of just jumping to the conclusion that something is wrong with the medication he’s taking? The sad truth is that doctors look at pain as a symptom instead of a disease…. which it is. It’s a disease that can be as debilitating as cancer, but doctors often undermedicate even cancer patients because of addiction concerns, when the reality is that only between 1 and 5% of chronic pain patientes are addicted. Most are merely dependant on their medication, which is characteristics of ANYONE taking ANY medication long-term. Some people have to be on narcotoics for pain relief, nothing else works. that doesn’t make them addicts or bad people or anything else, it makes them chronic pain patients.

I would not worry about him being over drugged I take 70mg of Methadone per day it has a long half life and is very strong I have been taking it now for 9 years and only recently increased the dose from 60mg to 70mg,what I am trying to say is that high dosage of Methadone causes very few problems.I lead a normal active life and hardly ever feel even a bit drowsy. It is more likely that his other medication will be the cause of his drugged up symptoms.CONTACT ME IF YOU ARE WORRIED. Chris…
