Yeah, a lot of people find the smallest excuse to have it prescribed to them so they can legally have a drug.
OTC painkillers are almost impossible to abuse because they usually contain ibuprofen or acetominophen, both of which have little to no mental effect.
The painkillers that get abused are chemical tweaks of morphine, like lortab, vicodin, oxycontin, codeine, etc. Those all get you high because they affect your opiate receptors which are associated with analgesia, feelings of well-being, warmth, among other things.
Prescription painkillers like oxycodone are basically opium basically there legal dope if you have a prescription take more then the recomended dose and u can get high as hell but there also very addictive
Firstly, over the counter medications like acetaminophen/paracetamol, ibuprofen, naproxen, and Aspirin are NOT addictive.
Opioid analgesics (pain killers) are in three categories
Opiates (these are also opioids), these are naturally occurring drugs from the opium poppy.
eg.morphine and codeine
Semi-synthetic opioids, these are derivatives of the naturally occurring opiates so they are chemically related and typically more potent than opiates.
eg. hydrocodone, oxycodone, oxymorphone, diacetylmorphine (heroin), and hydromorphone.
Synthetic opioids, these drugs have no chemical relationship to opiates.
eg. fentanyl, pethidine (aka meperidine), dextropropoxyphene (aka propoxyphene), tramadol, and methadone.
Opioids bind to opioid receptor sites, primarily the mu opioid receptor site, named after morphine.
You have probably heard of endorphins which are endogenous opioid polypeptides, meaning they are opioids made by your body.
The term endorphin is from the words (end)ogenous and (m)orphine to indicated they are endogenous morphine-like substances.
Endorphin’s make people happy, content, and relaxed. You may have heard the term “runner’s high” and what it means is that a flood of endorphins start to work to reduce pain and physical and psychological discomfort.
Opioids mimic endorphin’s and bind to receptor sites in the brain, spinal cord, and intestinal tract. However when a person takes opioids, legally or illegally, the body is basically flooded with what are effectively more endorphin’s, far more than would normally be working “naturally.”
When opioids (along with many other drugs) are taken continuously the brain will basically start to counteract the large amounts of “faux endorphin’s (ie the opioid medication)” to bring a sense of balance to the brain. Unfortunately even when opioids analgesics are necessary the brain still perceives the extra “endorphin’s” as too much. As a result, receptor downregulation occurs, meaning opioid receptors become less sensitive (like a callus on your foot) and tolerance starts to happen.
Tolerance is a need for markedly increased amounts of the substance to achieve the desired effect
and/or a markedly diminished effect with continued use of the same amount of the substance.
So a classic story of abuse is of a guy with a real injury and he gets a prescription for two weeks of oxycodone. His pain is gone after three days and he has a lot left so he takes them daily to feel better. However he soon finds not only is he almost out of tablets, he also does not get “high” anymore. So he might doctor shop, going to 5,10, 15, even 30 doctors to get more and more oxycodone because of his “terrible pain.” And within just a short few months his tolerance and abuse increased, instead of getting high on 5 mg of oxycodone he now takes 320 mg of oxycodone, four 80 mg OxyContin (oxycodone controlled-release) tablets to feel high (that dose would kill most people). Then one day he runs out and severe withdrawal occurs but because he is an addict it is not just a physical withdrawal (which alone is NOT addiction) he is desperate for opioids and often people will do anything to get them such as breaking into a persons home, harming themselves, going to the hospital and getting some pain medication, robbing a pharmacy, and so on.
Drugs of abuse also release the neurotransmitter dopamine, “the master molecule of addiction.” Dopamine is what rewards people when doing something enjoyable and a cycle forms, the brain somewhat rewires and often only cares about drugs.
Also the route of administration of a drug will change how it acts. So IV drug use is considered very bad because it bypasses everything and puts the drug directly into the blood stream which delivers it to the brain in seconds. So it really “hits” people.
suboxone-buprenorphine-naloxone-no way? to abuse
235 mgs ??????????????? holy fack ,,,,ive been doing great on 70 mgs ….thats a super high dose man….you must been taking it to nod off all day…..to each his own ,,,,,and if anyone would like to discuss methadone ,,,, msg me ? 🙂 and one last point drinking narcotic juice everyday is only 1 part of recovery which alot seem to forget
Wow we always had to go to alot of trouble to sell our take homes back when i was on it.? If one person was outside the clinic the cops were there instantly. You couldn’t sit in a car outside of the clinic or anything. Who would want to get on Methadone? It’s the most horrible shit ever
Anyways, the doctors put me onone thingafter another for tha? pain, eventually trying methadone bc nothing really worked. I am now a 21 year old methadone addict who NEVER signed up for tha part. So please people who dont kno about this struggle or lifestyle, stray away from criticizing us bc everyone that takes methadone isnt a JUNKIE…alot of people are on it bc of instances like me or for chronic moderate/severe pain….
I have been on methadone for about 3 years now and I am jus barely 21…Wen I was 18, a man broke inside my? apartment and came upstairs and beat me in the head with a steel maglite, while still asleep in my bed, beside my g/f.
Methadone 10 years?. come on at some point your supposed get off it! my girlfriend is on it and i HATE IT!!!. always moody and is not the same person that she was.she started at 85mg 2years ago to get off? pills and is down to 25mg but its bin a fight and even when she told the clinic she wanted to go down they try to convince her “SHE SHOULD NOT DO THAT” there the fucking drug dealers. Good luck to all of you trying to get off of that stuff.
this shit ruined? my sisters life
i have been on Methadone 10 years. The clinic i go to, you cannot hang outside like they are on this video, you go in, you see your counseler, you get a urine, you see the doctor. I get monthly take homes-? BUT i am called in spontaneously for a check up-a random urine, and dose count. If I don’t report within 24hrs, if i fail my urine, or if I am short my dose- I am kicked out. I have never seen anything like this at any clinic I go to. this must be RANDOM!!
this shit? ruined my dads life.
Well they fixed the problem? of illegal activites happening outside. I;m glad they did take action to stop drug diversion.
This is nuts, they just said that it’s easier to kick methadone than smack. Not a chance in hell!
Ibogaine is the way to? kick smack forever.
Good luck guys!
if it saved ya life hope you are working now? to pay some taxes as the tax payers saved your life, now give something back and get off ya ass
What the hell do you expect when you have hundreds of? junkies congregating in one place.
This is an outrage.. I have been in Methadone maintenance treatment for about a year and a half and it has SAVED MY LIFE!! But like anything else you have to want to be straight.. I go to a clinic in AL and this shit wouldnt happen for a second there they would have you locked up and kicked out. Hell now if you have takehomes they can call you at any time and make you bring your methadone to the clinic and have them make sure? what is suppose to be there and if its not you are discharged then.
I bought dope at this clinic when I was a junkie. This? clinic is the worst of the worst of all clinics and is loaded with scum and criminals. Meth clinics are usually not good places to make new friends.
i agree its nothing? to do with the increase of methadone users..its people using on top that kills them..they should all be supervised in there consumption of meth.make sure its swallowed.then thats the prob sorted but money comes into it thats why people die because of lack of funds
most methadone overdoese? dont jus happen with meth. in their system… usually zanax or valium is there too!!
…wish i could get? of meth…
